London-born Ranjana Ghatak is a familiar name within the London music circuit.  She started her training under the tutelage of Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty (India) and has since then, worked with several well-known names including Nitin Sawhney, Akram Khan and recently featured on the soundtrack of the feature film Life Goes On.  Awakening is Ranjana’s first solo album, released in October 2011.  It is produced by Bhupinder Singh Chaggar and Jesse Bannister, and features compositions by Lalit Kishori, Salil Chowdhury, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and Radha Ramon Maharaj.

Ranjana Ghatak joins forces with Seb Rochford and beatboxer Jason Singh to explore the relationships between their different musical influences. The collaboration allows them to experiment with Indian classical compositions, contemporary music, elements of jazz and intricately textured atmospheric sounds to create driving, improvised rhythms.

For one night only, Dulwich Picture Gallery presented Ragamala Remixed, a late-night opening of the Ragamala and Van Dyck in Sicily exhibitions with “a little bit extra”.  The “extra” came in the form of live dance and music performances from young people to semi-professional artists – the evening had an inclusive, participatory focus which certainly managed to draw in the crowds which was, perhaps, surprising considering the location.

Open Souls

Open Souls is a new collaboration with Seb Rochford of Polar Bear on drums, beatboxer and artist Jason Singh and Indian vocals by Ranjana Ghatak.
