Born in the east end of London, Shane Shambhu trained extensively in bharatanatyam before joining Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company. Shane has worked with an array of artists and companies using both contemporary and bharatanatyam techniques and employing his skills as a dancer, choreographer and actor in a variety of genres including dance, visual theatre and storytelling. Shane starred in Theatre De Complicite’s award winning A Disappearing Number at the Barbican, which toured internationally, he also featured in its radio play for BBC 3 and a worldwide screening for NT Live.
Leading member of Shane Shambhu Company, a collective of artists who create visual theatre with bharatanatyam at its core, Shane uses this traditional form to explore the modern mindset. The company’s work identifies with the changing ideals of the Indian diaspora through universal narratives that reach audiences both young and old using a distinctive and personal approach.
