Lasya Kavya / Alarmel Valli

This film examines how a dancer can be a writer, poet, painter, sculptor, actor and singer even as she dances. In some ways, Lasya Kavya is also a film about the pathway to greatness. Alarmel Valli’s story is an illustration of the fact that greatness comes only to those who relentlessly polish the gift of an inborn talent.  Lasya Kavya – the world of Alarmel Valli is an invitation for all of us to come into her world.

Shiva's Dance

For choreographer Satishkoemar Myre-Makhan, Shiva’s Dance symbolizes a period of change. The god Shiva gives the strength to endure times of transition. In this performance Satishkoemar draws from the classical Indian dance repertoires he learned in his youth and has transformed them into contemporary group choreographies.

Rising

Rising is a solo performance by Aakash Odedra. Individual works have been specially choreographed for him by artists Russell Maliphant, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Akram Khan, and the evening opens with a classical kathak variation which Aakash has choreographed himself. Each piece uses Aakash’s background in kathak and bharatanatyam to create a new flavour of contemporary dance, complemented with lighting by Michael Hulls and Willy Cessa.
