13-15 July

This summer, the whole nation is buzzing with exciting arts festivals to tie in with the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and one city  in particular will host its very first dance festival – the Milton Keynes Dance Festival!   Over three days (13-15 July), the city will showcase some of the best of its local amateur and professional talent with performances, workshops and eight FREE taster sessions – something for everyone!

Professional choreographers and dancer graduates come together with the local community,
to celebrate a wide-ranging programme of dance performances in the city.  Notably, two MK choreographers are also working on the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic projects: Helen Parlour as Assistant Choreographer for the Paralympics and Urja Thakore as one of the Choreographers for the Cultural Olympiad in London.
The community dancers will perform in the city centre amongst pavement artists, busking musicians and magicians whilst graduate dancers from MK will return to the city to work on a specially commissioned piece from by internationally acclaimed choreographer Mickael Marso Riviere of Company Decalage.
Urja Desai Thakore, Artistic Director for MK Dance Festival said: “This is a huge step forward for arts in Milton Keynes and we’re really looking forward to seeing the local community getting involved.”
