Open Souls
Open Souls is a new collaboration with Seb Rochford of Polar Bear on drums, beatboxer and artist Jason Singh and Indian vocals by Ranjana Ghatak.
The music is a soundscape, driving improvised rhythms using Indian classical compositions and contemporary music as its inspiration.
Ranjana Ghatak is a London born singer who released her debut ep Awakening in 2011 with arrangements by Jesse Banister. Having studied under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty, she has subsequently performed with Akram Khan and Nitin Sawhney, touring internationally and playing venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Sadlers Wells Theatre and the Barbican.
Jason Singh is a multi-disciplinary artist who creates and facilitates work through the mediums of sound, music, photography, poetry and moving image. A keen musical collaborator, he has performed alongside musician and composer Nitin Sawhney and also features on Sawhney’s album Philtre. Past and present musical collaborations also include Susheela Raman, Soumik Datta, The Safires, Shivamani, Matthew Halsall, Marco Fadda, and Stuart McCallum (Cinematic Orchestra). Singh is currently artist in resident at the V&A Museum in London.
Seb Rochford is a drummer, composer and producer based in London. He has his own band, Polar Bear, who have played throughout UK and Europe and were nominated for the Mercury Prize. He has also recorded and played live with Yoko Ono, Brian Eno, David
Byrne, Adele, Babyshambles, Patti Smith, Paolo Nutini and Corinne Bailey Rae.
