Soumik Datta on Tour

Young British composer and one of the most acclaimed Sarod players of his generation, Soumik Datta is going from strength to strength during his current tour of India.  He, and his collaborator, Arif Khan, (a young maestro who is the son of Tabla doyen Ustad Sabir Khan) premiered on 1January playing to a packed 500-seater venue in Kolkata and on 7January the State Governor himself launched the album, Circle of Sound, at Raj Bhavan.  Soumik has expressed his happiness in how the tour is being received: “Working in India has been an eye opening and powerful experience.  I feel blessed to have had such a fabulous start to the new year.”  

 
During the tour Soumik has lauched Sounds of Bengal which has a travel documentary/ live concert celebrating the modern identity of Bengal.  This project will tour in the UK between 1-20 April and he will be performing as part of the Alchemy festival at the Southbank Centre in London.
