As a dancer, I grew up following the vision of the Temple of Fine Arts, the institution where I trained. Their mission, ‘Art, just for the love of it’ can at once be a straight-forward pursuit, as well as take one on a spiral.
Ranjana is a Hindustani vocalist, who trains under Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty and is a full-time performer, teacher, dance accompanist and composer. The Odissi Ensemble is very fortunate to have danced to Ranjana’s glorious vocals.
What do an 85-year-old Methodist born in Grantham, a 43-year-old refugee from Sri Lanka and a 58-year-old Parsi born in Dar es-Salaam have in common? The answer is that they all attend Indian classical dance classes for adults.
