Introducing Line & Verse
We were delighted to receive a call from New York City. Swati Seshadri, bharatanatyam dancer and Carnatic vocalist formerly based in London, had moved to NYC and felt the need of a space for critical conversations about dance and the arts there. We felt that to offer the pulseconnects platform would enable this initiative to be realised immediately. We welcome Line & Verse here.
Swati in her own words…
Introducing Line & Verse: A New Chapter for South Asian Arts in New York City
We are thrilled to announce the launch of Line & Verse, dedicated to celebrating and critically engaging with South Asian performing arts in New York City.
We are honored to be welcomed by pulseconnects and deeply value the trust placed in us to share our work on their respected platform. For over two decades, pulseconnects has nurtured critical conversations and charted the development of South Asian dance in Britain. Line & Verse proudly adopts their mission: keeping the arts communities informed, connected, and energised.
New York City is home to a rich tapestry of South Asian creativity. Line & Verse is here to chronicle this evolving landscape and seeks to amplify the voices, work, and stories of South Asian artists thriving in one of the most culturally vibrant cities in the world.
Line & Verse will feature interviews, profiles and reviews written by local artists. This peer-review format aims to foster a culture of mutual respect and thoughtful critique, enabling artists to contextualize their work, build a written record of their practice and receive informed feedback. It is also an opportunity to sharpen their own writing skills while contributing to a growing archive of South Asian artistic production in NYC.
At the heart of Line & Verse is a belief in giving performance meaning, as a shared experience worth seeing, appreciating, evaluating, and preserving. By engaging critically with performance, we honor the labor and vision of artists, while helping audiences connect more deeply with the work.
If you are an artist interested in writing for us, or if you would like your work to be considered for coverage, please reach out to Swati Seshadri: swati.seshadri@gmail.com
